Today many products we use contain parbens. Parabens are toxic chemicals preservatives, and are found in so many skin care products and body care products. They are used to fight and kill bacteria and fungus. The problem is the skin is made up of cells, so preservatives even if used in small amounts can present a risk to the integrity of the skin. Once they are absorbed they become very hazardous to the body. For this reason, preservatives levels are restricted to a small percentage of the formula. So in other words just a small amount of poison is ok!! We’re exposed to so many chemicals every day, but have we ever stopped to think what the cumulative effects might have on our health.

How many skin care products do you use before you leave the house? shampoo, conditioner, body wash, moisturizer, after shave, deodorant , perfume, cologne, exfoliate, foundation, lipstick, eye shadow, mascara, eye liner, blush, nail polish. They all have low level of preservatives (parbens) that are considered at a “maximum safe level”. But is it still “safe” after when you use numerous different products??

The Problem with Parbens is they exhibit estrogenic activity and are suspected of being carcinogenic.  This is known to play a role in the development of breast cancers. Researchers have found parabens in breast tumors and believe there is a relationship between parabens and tumors.

Current Evidence shows parabens to be weak hormone mimics, for adolescent girls who are undergoing puberty hormonal activity as they develop into mature women. Formaldehyde –which you probably remember from high school biology class, the strong smelling solution use to preserve the dead frogs. It is very toxic to human cells and can cause cancer. Although it is a very effective preservative for killing microbes and is used in many skin care products. To get around some of the health risk the manufactures have created class of compounds known as formaldehyde releasing agents. What can we do to avoid this harmful preservatives?

Cut down on products that contain these harsh chemical preservatives. Start reading the labels avoid anything that contains any formaldehyde releasing Agents

Take time to read product labels, you’ll find there are some really great alternatives out there. You just need to know what to look for. Write this list out and carry it with you at all times to help make a healthy choice for your family.
