No pork on my fork !!

Listen up meat lovers, and Keto lovers. If you aren’t eating organic meat, you are ingesting a drug called ractopamine. Ractopamine belongs to a class of drugs commonly administered to animals called beta-agonists. This increased protein synthesis and helps animals pack on muscle weight. It is fed to an estimated 60-80% of Canadian and US pigs. It is been approved by the FDA in cows and turkeys as well.

Research has shown to cause side effects in these animals, such as hyperactivity, broken bones, and even death. Hmmm…. safe for humans to ingest ?

Many other countries are not too keen on having this drug in their meat. In 2009 European food safety panel said there wasn’t enough evidence to prove it is safe.

Interestingly enough many of the things banned in Europe in other countries across the water from North America, are passed as being safe to consume. GMO’s are another thing that is banned in most countries outside of North America.

I find it frustrating and of course sad, that we are not being made aware of these things. We are made to feel that here in Canada and United States that we have such high standards when it comes to safety. Unfortunately the more I get educated the more I find this is quite the opposite.

I would suggest eating organic meat or finding a farm you trust. Try to incorporate more veggies, and wild rice and beans to your diet. Try to get off the meat train as much as possible. Better for you, better for the planet.
